At the core of our coffee packaging design project was innovation, driving us to seize an opportunity to redefine industry standards and deliver packaging that excels in form, function, cost-effectiveness, and aesthetic appeal. Despite facing various constraints, including the unique shape of the sealed coffee bag, we tackled the challenge with creativity and ingenuity.

The client's desire for a flat presentation of the tall, tapered bag posed a significant design obstacle. Additionally, the bag needed to remain visible, ruling out the possibility of boxing it entirely—an approach that would have led to unnecessary over-packaging.

Our solution? Enter the “half box”—a clever lid-like structure that not only flattens the bag but also enhances stackability. This innovative design not only maximizes space for branding and essential information but also provides a convenient area for stamping freshness dates. Moreover, we developed a distinct brand identity centred around a colour and numbering system, allowing easy differentiation among the 14 coffee varieties while maintaining a cohesive and visually striking appearance.

Effective packaging solutions rely on establishing clear information hierarchies. By understanding consumer purchasing drivers and strategically prioritizing information through typography, layout, colour, and graphic elements, we ensure that essential details capture the consumer's attention effortlessly. This approach not only enhances the user experience but also strengthens brand recognition and trust.

Jacob's Coffee

True brew.

True

brew.

Half box, half bag, all flavour.

How do you stack a bag? That was the conundrum we faced when artisanal coffee brand Jacobs asked us to rethink their packaging design.
