Founded by Andrea Woo, KOLEF did not begin with a trend. It began with a personal experience of the problem, and a clear belief that style and sustainability are not a trade-off. Every product is made from recycled materials, manufactured ethically, and connected to tangible initiatives including tree planting and textile recycling, making good on the brand’s promise. The brief was to make that story impossible to miss, at every touchpoint a customer encounters.

At the centre of the system is the shipping box that does double duty, functioning as both primary product packaging and shipper, eliminating the need for additional transit packaging. Crafted from natural kraft with the bold geometric green K mark, it arrives with presence the moment it is delivered. No plastic coating. No excess. The structure communicates the brand’s values before a word is read.

Details such as iconography, the tear tab, and a quiet but deliberate ‘Please re-use or recycle this box’ instruction are placed precisely where customer attention is highest. Not as afterthoughts, but as active moments of engagement that compound meaningfully across every order.

On the inside lid, the first surface a customer sees on opening, carries a personal sustainability message. Not a marketing claim, but a genuine acknowledgement of the customer’s choice, and the shared commitment that sits behind it.

The bio-based bag is made from corn starch. It says so clearly, and the messaging earns the claim rather than simply making it. The swing tag works across multiple functions, sustainability promise, care guide, and returns policy, unified by a tone that is consistently warm and human.

The insert card closes the loop personally: a thank you from the KOLEF team, with a note from Andrea herself.

The result is a packaging system in which every element reinforces a single truth. Sustainability is not KOLEF’s marketing angle. It is their operating principle. Depot’s role was to make sure that showed.

Kolef

Conviction  carried.

A packaging system built on principle.

Depot was commissioned to design the complete packaging system for KOLEF, an Australian accessories brand making functional handbags and organisation accessories for women who care about what they buy, and why.
